After a Favorable Decision
What to Do After You’re Approved for Denver Disability Benefits
Receiving a favorable decision after a long and stressful journey of preparing forms, attending hearings and dealing with the Social Security Administration (SSA) is bittersweet. There may still be some bumps in the road of actually receiving your benefits from the SSA. Your Denver Social Security lawyer will help you until your payments are on track and in the correct amount.
After an administrative law judge (ALJ) has determined that you qualify for Social Security disability benefits, the SSA will process your claims and you will automatically receive your benefits. However, if you have children under 18 years old or under 19 years and still in high school, you will have to separately apply for benefits for them.
Generally, it will take approximately 30 to 90 days for your benefits to start. You will mostly likely have to wait even longer if your case went through an ALJ hearing. The reason is that most ALJs usually take one to three months to issue their written decision. A favorable decision is sent to the payment processing center, where it can take another three months for current benefits to start.
If you still have not received your benefits after 90 days, you will need to take some sort of action. The delay in your benefits may be the result of a bureaucratic mix up somewhere in the system.
A disability lawyer is useful during the application and appeal process for Social Security disability benefits. However, often times, you may still need the assistance of your Denver Social Security lawyer if 90 days has gone by and you have still not received your benefits. If you are not already represented by an attorney, please fill out the claim evaluation form on this page to contact John Cimino.
